High Price for a Plug-in Credit

Mark

The good news is that the House passed a bill this week that includes a $4,000 tax credit for the purchase of plug-in hybrids, those great new vehicles that can run on all-electric power for upwards of 20 miles before their gas or diesel engines kick in. That credit could be quite a boost to this new technology, which, while exciting, remains expensive. General Motors has been talking for months about putting their plug-in hybrid, the Chevy Volt, into production within the next few years, and a $4,000 tax credit could be just the kick that GM needs for a successful launch.

There’s just one catch: President Bush has vowed to veto the bill, because it reduces tax credits for big oil companies. Next time you wonder why we’re not making any progress in reducing our dependence on imported oil, just take a look at the Bush White House’s record of corporate welfare to petroleum companies. And if you are considering buying a plug-in hybrid but hesitate because the price is too high, just remember the message you’ve been sent from Washington.

Hopefully the upcoming election and new administration will not only take a stand against our dependence on foreign oil, but will also encourage legislation for all types of alternatives as well as push for it. One can certainly hope. However, unless everyone votes and makes their voices heard, any hope of change is truly nothing more than a distant dream.

The sooner we get Moron Bush out of the White House the better. We have known all along that he favors oil companies over American citizens and this just adds fuel to the fire. I keep hoping he will have a heart attack but that would just leave us with Dick Cheney so we are still screwed.

It will be interesting when the Bush Admisitration is out of office to see who will be the next “whipping boy”. What are you dopes going to do when you don’t have George Bush to blame for all of the World’s problems. If you think your “Messiah” Obama is going to make your life better I’m afraid your in for a shock. I don’t agree with everything GB ***s, but I also don’t believe he is “Satan” reincarnated. I’m anxiously awaiting the next person to take office to see if “He” or “She” can shut you whining Morons up.

I find it hard to understand why this publication finds electricity, or bio-fuel as the big fuel savior of the future. Where is your backing for coal gasification? Especially because we have an estimated 300 year supply with known reserves! I also hear about how it is Bush’s fault for all our energy problems, but yet it has been the environmental wacko crowd that has resisted refinery expansion and nuclear power plant construction for decades-where are the articles about their policies and how they are part of the problem?
